Improving Teeth Strength and Appearance

Dentistry is constantly advancing, providing patients with innovative treatments and cosmetic solutions. Composite fillings have now replaced silver amalgam fillings almost completely. They are stronger, more natural-looking and longer-lasting.

Discover how we use composite fillings to give our patients bright smiles as well as many other benefits.

Restore Decayed and Chipped Teeth
  • What Are Composite Dental Fillings Used for?

Composite fillings are used as treatment for tooth decay. When composite dental fillings are used to repair tooth decay, your teeth look completely natural after your treatment. You won’t show shiny metal fillings if you laugh or smile.

If you have had amalgam fillings for quite a few years, you might notice that they have darkened. Darkened fillings mar the beauty of a smile, but these tooth-colored fillings avoid this problem completely.

A chipped tooth can also be fixed with white fillings. With careful application, the tooth-colored material will restore your tooth to its original shape or a new improved shape, if you prefer.

If you are not happy with your existing amalgam dental fillings, your dentist can replace them with composites. This is one of the cosmetic dentistry services seeing the highest increase in demand in recent years.

The new tooth-colored dental fillings do the same job as the older metal material, but our patients find the appearance of these restorations to be much more desirable.

  • How Are Tooth-Colored Fillings Created?

The composite resin used for fillings is made of a combination of durable plastics and glass. It is easy to find a shade that matches the color of your teeth very closely so your smile retains its beauty even after receiving dental fillings in teeth that are visible to others.

For a restoration of a decayed tooth, Dr. Sandhu will first clean out all the decayed tissue to prepare it for a composite dental filling. The cleaned-out area will then be filled with the composite material that was matched to your tooth color. This material will then be shaped to fit exactly into your bite. A special light will be shined on the composite material to cause it to harden quickly. Usually, just one visit is required to complete the treatment.

No Metal Fillings, Try Tooth-Colored Fillings

Don't Take Our Word, Hear from the Patient of Carmichael Smiles!

Carmichael Smiles is the best dentist I have personally been to. The staff is welcoming and polite. Dr Sandhu always has made decisions that are best for me. I had to have some major work done to replace old fillings from when I was young and it has worked out perfectly. I feel much better about my smile and my sensitivity has decreased. I’ve been a patient for almost 3 years and look forward to remaining one as long as I live in the area.

Given that I have trigeminal neuralgia (facial nerve pain) which can be triggered by dental work, I was VERY nervous to get the old mercury filling of my broken molar cleaned out and a crown put on. Dr. Sandhu and Grace were wonderfully patient and kind throughout my procedure and helped me to relax considerably. I am happy to report that I am not experiencing any pain after my procedure. I will continue coming here, along with my twin teenage boys, and I am so glad to have found such a professional, reliable and caring dentist!
